SESAME
STARTED 1 July 2015
The project targets three central innovation areas: intelligent placement of network functions at the network edge using Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) and Edge Cloud Computing; substantial evolution of the Small Cell concept to meet the performance demands of dense 5G scenarios; and the consolidation of multi-tenancy in communications infrastructures to support new business models — such as shared network access, infrastructure-as-a-service, and edge service hosting. SESAME developed the Cloud-Enabled Small Cell (CESC) concept, integrating a virtualised execution platform (“Light DC”) for deploying Virtualised Network Functions (VNFs), supporting self-organising features and on-site application execution within the access network. The project culminated in prototypes demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of the SESAME architecture in relevant use cases.
Role of InCites Consulting:
INCITES participates in dissemination and communication activities and contributes to use case and system architecture definition. INCITES conducts detailed market analysis, identifying competitors, market characteristics, and barriers to entry through technology roadmapping. It proposes new business models to support win-win deployment strategies and develops detailed cost and tariff models for dynamic 5G broadband networking. INCITES also delivers techno-economic analysis, market forecasts, and preliminary regulatory guidelines related to spectrum and infrastructure sharing.
